Apples are amazing! Baking them with a bit of butter in the oven, brings out the sweetness. A dash of cinnamon completes the taste. Add a handful of almond slices and we’re done. Who needs cake when you have this!
I have been doing this as a sweet side dish to out scrambled eggs in the mornings quite a few times these last weeks. Of course it works just as well as a dessert or a snack. It takes about 30 minutes from start to done and most of that time is in the oven.
For the four of us I take 2 apples. My form does not fit more, but I could use the baking tray if I ever need to make a bigger batch.
- Turn the oven on to 200 C (390 F)
- Melt butter – about 25 g or 2 tbsp.’s. I simply scoop the butter into the form and place it in the oven while heating it up. Saves washing up!
- In the meantime cut the apples into 8 wedges each. (cut core out)
Once butter is melted, get the form out of the oven. Place the apple pieces in the form and use a spoon to stir them around until they are covered in melted butter. Sprinkle a good bit of cinnamon over the apple and possibly stir around a bit more.
Finally sprinkle some almond slices (or other chopped nuts) over the apples and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes
In the mornings I serve them just like that, with eggs.
But if you want to make a dessert out of it you could add some whipped cream or vanilla mascarpone to the apples. (Simply stirring vanilla and a little bit of honey into mascarpone makes a quick vanilla sauce)
Enjoy!
